Das Stück stammt vermutlich aus Indien (Benares-Stil), gefertigt um 1900. Es wurde vor 1920 in Ostsumatra (heutiges Indonesien) erworben und war Teil der ethnografischen Sammlung von Else Lucie Sommer (1899–1987), Tochter eines Dresdner Plantagenmanagers auf Sumatra.
