„The paintings on Peepal tree leaves is a centuries old traditional art, which originated in south of India. Once the fresh Peepal leaves are processed as described here, they are ready for painting. The artist first draws an outline of the painting very carefully with charcoal so as not to damage the leaf mesh. Then she starts to paint the leaf mesh using the oil paint (Acrylic paint in some cases) using various size brushes as per the design. This work takes a few hours and each painting varies slightly as it is completely drawn by hand in bright vibrant colors and mounted on black paper.
Painting on Peepal leaf is a delicate work of art originated in the southern India (Kerala). Its one of the oldest forms of art, which shows the ingeniousness & patience of the artists. This art form originated because the leaves of the peepal tree have a beautiful shape as they taper to a needle point. Only a few artists are left who practice this leaf art. Peepal Leaf Painting are great for making cards, wall decoration, bookmark, gifts. etc
The Pipal is also called tree of Bodhi, it is a tree sacred to Buddhists.“
