The Poenari Story

At first there was an idea: What if pens and fountain pens were made of wood instead of plastic?

I looked it up, I read, I informed myself, and I came to the conclusion that it could be done. After several attempts... we succeeded. The result was surprising, far beyond my expectations and, above all, beyond the expectations of others.

Among my searches, I discovered an extraordinary thing that I did not know. I read about a man who has done an enormous amount for us, who has always been one step ahead of the others, a pioneer who has shown the way forward.

In 1827, the Romanian Petrache Poenaru was the one who patented in France the invention: "Endless portable pen, feeding himself with ink".

Known today as the "fountain pen", his invention has since contributed to the development of society, giving us the chance to more easily transpose our thoughts on paper. Poenaru's tank heel eliminates scratches on paper and unwanted leaks of ink and proposed solutions to improve the component parts to ensure a constant flow of ink, as well as the possibility of replacing parts.

In the last decades of the twentieth century, with the increasing popularity of cheap writing toll and pens, the fountain pens were only used as a less popular option.

Today, however, it is gaining more and more attention, both from women and men, becoming a form of representation of personal style, a modern accessory, a collector's item or even a symbol of status.

Nowadays when most things are automated and when even a handmade object seems to lose its value, I am here as a testimony that this must not happen.

Poenaru managed to create a superior writing instrument for that time. He attached to the nib an ink cartridge making it more practical and easy to use.

After centuries, taking over his method, I brought a plus of elegance by transforming a writing instrument into a personalized accessory. Today, I wish to restore to it the value that time has taken from him, ... a glimpse of what once was.

I took a look into the past and found inspiration, ... I created something unique, ...a revolt against the oppressive plastic of everyday life, ... I gave birth to something new, without denying the past. We have shown that by working with our hands we can defeat any production machine and that beauty has its roots in wood. I cut, polished, finished and transformed the massive wood into art.

Every pen or fountain pen I make is unique because of the wood, but also because of the hands that never manage to follow a pattern.

There are so many types, shapes and colors that define the pens and fountain pens that I crafted, that I don't think there will ever be two identical... and yet, to enhance the uniqueness and personalization, they are engraved with the owner's name.

I'm sure one of them could be part of your outfit, or it could bring smiles to the lips of a friend who would receive it as a gift.

Like the signature, the writing instrument will be unique to you.
