This is dictionary is extremely comprehensive and remarkably easy to use.
If you're not willing to limit yourself to the 1945 Jouyou kanji, and/or if you're staying in Japan, this is the mother of all kanji dictionaries for English-speakers. There are very very few characters that I haven't been able to find in here. Plus, it has a reduced set of radicals, so is easier to find things in, even if you do know at least one way to pronounce it.
There are 7.000 main character entries with a whopping 47.000 entries including compounds.
